QUIRKY DREAMS

QUIRKY DREAMS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

a new plan

QUIRKY DREAMS

A fine sleep, an assortment of dreams

mainly about my darling soldier

he is now in full recovery

hence, we are willing and able to dance

the waltz, gaze into each other’s eyes

as we sweep the floor in a gold leaf ballroom

with crystal chandeliers

in the wee hours we settle under cool

satin sheets veiled in each other’s arms

At once, my dream transitions to the gentleman

as we sit on a park bench, chat, and chuckle until we tire

in the aftermath of silence, I summon the courage

to impart that I must not engage with him further

he appears shocked, eyes wide open in oblivion

then he stammers on and on which causes me to worry

I awaken perplexed for a short time

then begin to comprehend that it was only a dream

after I gather myself, I maintain that my plan with the gentleman

has not changed

I shall remain in my cabin for three days

all meals shall be sent there

at dawn, I hope to walk the decks

Afternoon naps and read my book

I know this sounds awfully boring, yet it must be done

I sense this behavior of mine shall have some negative

influence on the gentleman in question

If, by chance, I encounter him I will turn quickly without a sound

If there is no knock on the door

then I shall know my scheme is effective

yet what shall I do if he, in fact, knocks on the door?

oh, this is so cruel, but I must not waiver

only four more days until we reach London

.

Oh what a dilemma. I sense sone turmoil here Betty. You love your soldier, but you appear to be under the spell of another. Can you resist his charm? I await eagerly your next chapter following your quirky dreams. Waiting with anticipation. You write so well in this period style.

You certainly have got yourself into a situation
Your soldier has been out serving his country while, at the same time, being true to you!!
Can you look at yourself in the mirror

It's a pity the meetoo movement didn't exist back then Betty. You could have just told him no means no and threaten to have him hash tagged!
Come to think of it, the threat to have him hash tagged back then would have probably perplexed him enough for you to make your escape with your modesty intact! 😊

Our heroine still seems steadfast in her desire to remain true to her wounded soldier. Yet in her dreams she finds herself interacting with the gentleman she met aboard ship. In the dream, she tells him they must break it off, which upsets him, after which his dismay upsets her. She awakens determined to avoid him. But one must wonder if she is conflicted by this plan.

And what if the gentleman knocks on the door. Wouldn't it be worth the dance and the gentle embrace? You have me captured.

With love,
