BROKEN FENCE

BROKEN FENCE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

A flaw in the bond...

"

BROKEN FENCE

A broken fence

a flaw in a sisterly bond

siblings on two planets far from each other

in childhood we were never snug

she, with knee-jerk temper

me, hiding behind the stairwell in fear

Today I mourn for her life

loner with dog

conversation cuts off the blood flow

inept to share what is deep in the

abyss of her inner core

she disguises behind the thick skin

of remoteness

stoic with shadows locked up

for safe keeping

One can find no embrace

into her sphere

into her heart

no elbow room for me

the fence may never mend

Why it is that family doesn't seem to stay close anymore these days, it is so sad. As it is with my two brothers who hardly speak to one another and it has gone on for years ;-} Nicely expressed piece.

Perhaps there's a time - before it is far, far too late, to sit on a bench and feed ducks or do /watch something, anything, together. Forget selves, thik same place, same time tobe in the same place at the same time. Perhaps>

This is a tragedy: one with fearful memories, the other.. alone. Could a canvas of that situation hang on your wall?. If not, why? As reviewers we can't guess what is fiction, what is fact, but, there is a difference, isn't there, dear Betty.

PS The broken fence is bound to freely give splinters. to the two: best mend the fence by mending yourselves?

The pain behind this one is almost palpable. Civil wars are the fiercest of all, possibly because they stem from what is deepest in us. The broken fence is a very good symbol for this one. Hopefully a mending will some day occur, but in these cases, nothing is certain.

Correct, nothing is certain
You're very welcome John

dear Betty... my Mother and her younger and older Sister shared memories. I was an only Child, and always wished I had siblings.
We sometimes adopt a sister or brother by choosing our friends to be close from time to time. Mending Fences is always a challenge, but worth the effort. softly, Pat
