"

the gentleman's dinner

"

FIRST  FIRST DATE

Upon my extremely irrational decision

to attend the captain’s dinner

my nerves are particularly fretful

I pace the corridors, search my wardrobe

out for a breath of fresh air

I still worry about my judgement

nothing more to mutter

Now I must adorn myself

with the loveliest garments I own

along with my finest jewelry

I feel like a teenager on her first date

with nerves at highest tension

silly as it may seem

he is expected at six o’clock

I be-deck in a green satin low-neck dress

just below the knee

not to worry, my chest shall be shrouded

with magnificent sea pearls

nay too enticing

black hosiery, with matching heels

wool shawl, supposing we stroll the deck after dinner

Well, here we are in the great hall dining room

to shake hands with the captain at any moment

after which we sit at our reserved table for two

with glasses of champagne awaiting our first sip

Our dining experience is pleasurable with

goodly conversation

he continues to gaze at my eyes

in between chatter and smiles

I must confess tis a bit uncomfortable

all things considered with my soldier’s condition

yet I am not alone

Oh Betty; What a rigmarole to get everything purfkit for diner with the Captain
Personally I would be far happier with newspaper parcel hold battered fish and chips
Eaten with either the supplied disposable wooden fork
Or my fingers
While sitting on a park bench

I am glad that our cruise to Noord Kap and Svzallbard was cancelled
The firm went bankrupt

So we went to Iceland in our camper van

six weeks on the 'route one' road

Well now, Betty, that visual talks quite loudly: - suggests a celebratory feast for which you've dressed to steal a star from the sky! Now then, what comes next? Your fine tale insists on leaving me hungry!

Dear Betty,
After reading about her deep devotion and love for her soldier, this indeed comes as a bit of a blow to my heart. That’s indeed just how a skilled writer and storyteller makes the reader feel. Moving them to emotions, strongly.
I loved your description of her dressing up for the dinner with the captain. Loved the detailing of her dinner attire. Youthful love is so quirky. We never know what’s going on in our hearts and minds and life ahead seems like a glittering ocean filled with magical adventures. Can’t blame her really. I loved this very well constructed chapter and eagerly look forward to more.

The continuing saga of the traveling love affair. Are you going to put all these together in a book? Nicely done.
