UNVEILED

UNVEILED

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Developments at sea

"

UNVEILED

As I meander to my cabin

A bit tipsy, I might say

Befuddled from the demeanor

In the dining room

I, unerringly, slump on the bed

My mind disordered

With a faint headache

I drift off for some time

Later, as I dress in my bed clothes

A sudden notion dawns upon me

What is the next phase with this gentleman?

Who seems to be infatuated with me

A long voyage is ahead

Shall I disengage with him promptly?

Or quieten down and keep calm?

I prefer not to pain him

The captain’ s dinner terrifies me

As I shall be unveiled with my shipmates

Observing now two at the table

With chit chat at hand

Oh, pity me

Why did I return that smile?

First and foremost

I shall not chastise myself

My only desire is to arrive safely in London

And go straight on to hospital

Where my darling soldier shall be surprised to see me

If I sleep well tonight

I may awaken with a different mindset

About the captain’s dinner

Seems your protagonist is going to be torn between two men very soon and will need to keep her wits about her. The unknown stranger is always tempting so it may well become an extreme battle between the heart and mind. At least a long journey allows one plenty of time to think, yet equally, it does make it difficult to avoid any further confrontations with the unknown stranger. A compelling narrative with an intriguing premise and an outcome yet to be determined.

I want to read the other parts of this so I can have more understanding about the captain and this woman's journey. But I feel an understanding with wanting to sleep away troubles and not always resting easy with the journey ahead. Nothing ever goes as planned but I hope she makes it to her planned destination with love in her heart.

Led first of all by your great visual - lucky find, Betty!.

Then of course, you follow through in your own fine way, placing appropriate words in the tone and time of your travels.

Seems in spite of your soldier, you are a woman beneath those garments, that look - and refinement! Hmmmn.. .. Will be interesting to read the next par, will you dare or not; rather think i know, knowing the you between the words.

So poetic, thank you dear friend….
Warmly,

The reflection on a returned smile and the desire to prioritize personal well-being while considering the feelings of the other person highlights the complexity of their situation. It conveys a mix of vulnerability, inner dialogue, and anticipation for what's to come.

Thank you!

The feeling is that our heroine is somewhat enchanted by the stranger's advances. She is uncomfortable about the captain's dinner, but why? If the gentleman gets too forward, all she has to do is tell him to kiss off. I wonder if she fears not being able to do so.
