PRELUDE

PRELUDE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Stay Calm

"

After considerable muddling

I locate a ship to depart for London

In two days hence

I ought to prepare for this

long-desired journey

the exhilaration in me

flies like a hawk

circling my house

I sense my heart thump in anticipation

Notions about what to pack up

Scuttle through my psyche

I shall visit my armoire

And scour my proper outfits

I bundle some garments to pack

In my old wooden trunk

And whack it down tight

Afterwards I rest on it

And imagine all eventualities

That may well befall me

Such like my dear one dies

Though that idea is too dreadful

Or he does not distinguish me

Or my soldier fails to love me

These reflections could plant my soul

In profound darkness

Inept to untangle a web of sorrow

I shall not sanction that to happen

I had better regard the cloudless slope

The poet is all set and exhilarated to depart on a journey to get close to a subject who means a lot to her. She is intent on wasting no time gearing up for this paramount event. Although her excitement is met with apprehensions, she insists on keeping optimistic to gather cloudless clarity through to the voyage's end. Sending my best wishes and may this reunion be wholesome and lovely.

A remarkable poem Betty. Quite moving. As one whose heart is always set in the direction of somewhere wherever i am not at the moment, the stirring excitement of your poem is so so relatable to me. Nothing stirs souls, or at least my soul, like the expectation of setting off. You capture this to the nth degree.

The contrast between anticipation of the upcoming trip and the fears that go with an unknown journey are very nicely put!

dearest Betty… reading your Novella is quite like the necklace with a blue heart 💙 when the Titanic was sunk. The apprehension was felt .. wondering if Life boats are available. tenderly, Pat

I liked the way this one took off to a new beginning. However the trip is or to where ever the trip is, if there is a trip or not I wish the best.

A positive outlook needed in these circumstances Betty, even though doubts set in. Beautifully conveyed dear poet. I imagine an apprehensive journey and I am already looking forward to the next part of your story. I am a sucker for happy endings:) Have a lovely Thursday.

The story continues. The speaker has made the decision to go to Europe to find out firsthand the truth of her lover's situation. She has located a ship bound for London and packed for the trip. The enemy now is the uncertainty. Possible negative outcomes unsettle her, but she is determined to see the thing through. Like the pacing of the story, how it continues to keep the reader's interest.

Thank you Betty for one more, its ok, to have someone to relax and have a holiday, as long as she is fine, and i know he takes care of everyone. For his heart is childish who doesnt want to hurt any. Buon viaggio.

Thank you Jessy for your words,

It was Tom Petty who sang, "The waiting is the hardest part." It is funny the things the mind will think when we are made to wait. Whether waiting for a departing ship or to see a loved one again...have a great voyage. : )
