AND THEN...

AND THEN...

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

questionable ending; take your pick

"

AND THEN...

Rich blue flames fly near and far

whoosh

red balloon soars

into the unknown aquamarine

ascends among misty clouds

glides smoothly

a few bumps in the unpolished air

champagne bottles burst, spray

bubbles laughter, thrills

Journeys in time

notable moments, without a care

trees, fields of Rape

diminish to the naked eye

tranquil then jolts during tempests

balloon descends over treetops

passengers shriek with cheers or fears

and then…

Really nice betty. I have been up in a hot air balloon before, it was a wonderful experience, similar to how your beautiful poem describes it.

Thank you will; it is exhilarating...a bit scary depending on the pilot!

there are obstacles we might run into, but if we are strong enough, we will not lose flight.

Your review is so spot on J... that's exactly the perfect interpretation....

Made me think of the Hindenburg, 1937. Of course, that was a dirigible, not a balloon, but the effect is similar.
PS: You had me going with "fields of Rape." Glad I looked it up.

If I was a kid reading this, I'd be like "No fair! I want a shot!"
But that whole Jules Cerne vibe gets to look kinda prehistoric quick when grown and you realise that you are travelling in an enlarged picnic basket powered by a hairdryer! Just hope you don't land near the lion enclosure or they'll think your an Uber eats! 😊
