EXPECTATIONS

EXPECTATIONS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

awaiting an embrace?

"

Expectations

T’is Wednesday and I arise

As the sun wipes its sleepy eyes

After an unsettled slumber

Awakening every hour with heart flutters

And unbounded expectations

I chatter about the need to be

The most splendid fiancé

Smartened up to my very best garment

My hair plunging down my shoulders

Even sexy one might think

I must tidy the house to look brilliant

Notably my bedroom

I reach for my favorite violet satin sheets

Spray with a spot of perfume

His favorite of course

Roses from my garden might complete the look

My old grandfather clock informs me at three o’clock

I fancy time would hasten

As I note butterflies in my countenance

I run incessantly to the mirror

To peep at my attire and position my hair

In distinct ways

At once, my clock chimes four o’clock

Nigh to the bridge

I begin to count the minutes

Prior to our embrace

I beg that his enthusiasm mimics my own

T’is nearly time to meet him

I don my woolen shawl

as there is a chill in the air

a bit of mist

the sun is  bone-tired and slowly drooping

as I vacate the house

I discern the old bridge and lantern beyond

Through the haze

I hasten my steps in an effort

To be there precisely at 5 o’clock

I enjoyed the getting ready, the preparing and anticipation of it all in this write. Thought it was a very clever step to write about before the meeting as it shows the excitement, the joy and the love that captivates. Love this series. Will be back to read the others. Haven’t been feeling well. Just getting back here.

as far as I am concerned, this whole affair, your 'Expectations' that is, has a charm all of its own .. it is seriously captivating and leads the reader write through Wednesdays eager anticipations and associated busyness that I image fail to distract but nevertheless serve some useful purpose .. through to the point where I swear I could also feel the gathering of butterflies deep within my own countenance too .. then onward, at a pace faster than one is customary to but respectfully short of a full blown sprint .. in time to arrive bang on five o' clock .. and oh' my word, I so hope a happy ending ..
Poetic prose at its FABist best Betty.

I really did enjoy it!
The anticipation is perhaps the best part of waiting. All that preparation that goes into making that special moment the most unforgettable one. And then the prayer that our ardors natch. I especially loved the details of how in-depth and heartfelt the preparations were I can just imagine how beautifully it all came together at 5 o'clock. Kudos on such beautifully written thoughts and feelings.

Enjoyed the poem so much. You're most welcome, dear Betty.
I jumped the gun! Is it Wednesday already? She doesn't live far from the bridge does she? Hopefully they don't lay on the roses. She might get pricked ... but then, maybe that's what she's hoping for. (Shame on me!)
