THE TELEGRAM

THE TELEGRAM

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

change of heart ...for the moment

"

THE TELEGRAM

I bide for a few days

Tinker around the house

Muttering to myself about voids

Struggle to immerse

Fantasize a bit

Consider the written word to my soldier

I persist to brood over my sentiments

I need a walk, freshen up my whims

T’is a chill in the air as I plant my feet outside

The sun illuminates the sky

Cotton clouds waft by

leaves stir in faint breeze

I trod along a familiar path that leads to the bridge

Memories rouse in my mind about our meetings there

I sense goose bumps on my skin

Birdsongs are profuse, euphony to my ears

Cow fields in every direction

I heed their base sounds as well

After an hour’s walk, I enter the front of the house

It appears there is an envelope on the steps

I stoop down to collect it

My hands quiver as I open the door

My darling. I have leave due in three days. I miss you. Meet me at the Bridge at 5 o’clock on Wednesday. My love.”

My smile befits high spirits

few droplets down my cheek

my pulse stretches to the moon

I blink sundry times

as my lashes bind together

I shall count every minute

until Wednesday

when we meet at bridges end

This has the subtle feel like
particular picturesque bridge
somewhere in Madison county.
So many wonderful lines.
I feel tempted to cut and paste
them . I too heeed base sounds
on my walks in all directions.
You have such a pulse .
Nicely done,
R.

Nice story...

I do enjoy happy love stories...

That's the good thing about fiction... we can give it a happy ending if we want...

Sorry... don't know if your story is real or fiction...

Or even if it has a happy ending...

;)

The end of Bridges End? Say it ain't so! I'll be reading Wednesday. Counting the minutes too. So now we have a timeline ... 1929. I'm gonna have to look up euphony. A pulse that reaches to the moon might require some medication.

dearest Betty... a lovely romantic poem... that resonates
the Joy of a Soldier's return. I am married to a Veteran who
returned against all odds. His Mother and Father have passed;
however they were and are appreciative that I have taken care of
their only Son to this day. gently, Pat

I like that the message is to meet at the bridge, rather than a dreaded informing of the loved one's death. Nicely done.

How absolutely captivating Betty, you made the whole page come alive and encouraged me to live it beside you .. and not a single sense was spared the very real treat you infused within it .. I was waiting for the bombshell ending, but thankfully, it was a happy one instead filled with joyous anticipation ..

I think we got ourselves a win win ... AGT's N :)
goose bumps and birdsong euphonies, love's power of connection, bonding to another soul embodied,
but it will brood in wistful sentiments in its absence, words from the voids within, to the bridge over the river of love, sensations and embodied memories freshens the spirit...
sensual connections in images and sounds, cloud sun connection, goose bumps and birdsongs....
it IS an euphony!

A wonderful and beautiful story. To find a love after the war. It is salvation for the soldier. I did like the hopeful ending dear Betty. I do like when love can win. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I enjoyed the poetry and you are welcome dear Betty.
What a touching poem, Betty, - as i reach for a tissue. How gently you've created a finely written and incredible poem but also, some bitterly sad history. I stared. blinked, then, stared again at the telegram and found such tragic echoes. Their truth is softly lit by your final phrase.
