THE ORANGE EYE

THE ORANGE EYE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

GUESS WHO?

"

THE ORANGE EYE

As I stand al fresco this night

I catch a glimpse of a witch in flight

She glides in front of the moon

And croons a wretched tune

In and around the stars

She’ll never orbit Mars

The witch touches down next to me

I gasp and hide behind the nearest tree

Her orange eyes bulge out

As I wipe my drizzling snout

Green slime oozes from her chin

Not to mention her toothless grin

She has an ear-splitting cackle

I ought to plant her head in a shackle

She flaps as though she has wings

Off she goes and springs

Into the darkness of night

Far away from my sight

I wonder where she rests in the skies

I surmise I will never again see those
 orange eyes

I always adore the Halloween poems and the amount I see around this time! They always seem to be catchy, fun and wicked and haunting. Violent, gory, scary or not. I love the mystery of this poem, where she sleeps, the small glimpse you saw. It adds a lot of mystery and feels like a memory as a child. You swear you saw something, on your life! But no one believes you but at least you, of all people have the memory! Haha thank you for sharing a wonderful Halloween poem. (:

Very good rhyming and storytelling here, B. Why do so many witches have to be so ugly, though? I sure miss Elizabeth Montgomery on "Bewitched."

An entertaining write, Betty. Funny and almost scary too! My 5-year-old grandson loves Halloween! He'll be getting ready to carve a pumpkin head (with a little help from his mother) and put a candle inside it any time soon! All the best, Robert.

I thought with the title and the guess who, that trump had gone too far, yet again 😊
But then I rememberated that the witching hour will once more be upon us and scary biscuits will be on sale too, yum yum. 😊
No matter the struggles of our ever changing economy, we shall still fork out for some hellish fun.
I remember when it was all about the kids, but those kids grew up... And they still want their damn candy 😊
