RENAISSANCE MAN

RENAISSANCE MAN

RENAISSANCE MAN

Eleven years bygone

yet I see him undeniably

in my mind’s eye

he floats from one side

to the other

though he never ceases to exist

My mentor, my best friend, my cheerleader

my savior, my dad

a kindhearted, gifted renaissance man

his mind moved swiftly

to tend to his business, his crafts and his family

he was a master of all three

and still preserved a dysfunctional home

His genius endured in painting, poetry and music

fingers danced on the piano devoid of a glance

along with a croon of memorable

songs of his time

As he aged, life evolved

into an internal struggle

his deafness at middle age

blindness as an elderly

kidnapped his gifts of life

yet he persevered, crippled by his ailments

he saw the light in his mind and died peacefully

at ninety-four

his own poem engraved on his stone.

A truly lovely poem and leaves me a feeling that I would have really liked to get to know him. There’s a sense that a life lived fully left a lasting beautiful impression..

dearest Betty… my Mother was an Artist and my Father read Shakespeare … they separated when I was nineteen. However, as I age I love the Art of poetry.. and even now in the midst of calamity as our Country is ravished with poor planning… I find that words of Kindness can be healing. We are Flowers in many Colors that bloom and bring Bouquets of Wisdom to the Table. With love ❤️ and understanding. The painting of your Dad is worth a million words.. that is reflected in your poem. tenderly, Pat

A tribute to a special man here. He apparently had multiple talents, despite relinquishing some to the effects of aging. Nevertheless, his spirit seems to have been strong right to the end at age 94. I take it the portrait is one of your own.

What a sweet and uplifting ode to your father. Although 94 is a very ripe age to live to, I'm so sorry that he wasn't able to be fully functional till the end. I know you miss him. (As I miss mine)
