THE MIDDLE

THE MIDDLE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

being in the middle....

"

I am in the middle

of a Prussian blue sea

I am in the midst of

my climb up an oak tree

I am in the middle of a book

whose name might put me to shame

I am midway between

my first and last name

I am centered between

the sun and the sand

my skin is burned

I wear a Cadmium red headband

I am midmost within

the moon and my shadow

similar to a ghost

I choose to follow

I am halfway in thick, tall grass

no one spies on me

naught to report to

that affords me the key to be free

I am a middle child

naught attention do I earn

my wish is that my siblings are on some planets

thankfully that kills my nagging heartburn

Very interesting write Betty!
Very creative the way how you describe the benefits and some disadvantages of being a middle child.
I hope the last two lines are delusional?

Made me chuckle.

Hope you are well Betty

Wasn't great then, but now it's okay.. Thank for your review.
Take care, B
Hooray for the middle child! I've got an older brother and younger brother. Thought I was screwed up, but later figured out we middle children are very special. Obviously. The most creative by far. LOL Sure the others would disagree, but they're just jealous. What a great and creative poem, but I'm a little partial. Got a funny brady bunch middle child meme link for you.

I am the eldest of five, so I had to grow up quickly and accept responsibility early. I felt it was expected that I had to be the sensible one. My middle sister has often complained about middle child syndrome, saying she felt left out :) I would gladly have swopped places with her. If you are in the middle, you have company either side of you. I felt like a book end :) I really enjoyed this write Betty about being in the centre.

Such a great ode to the middle child. I'm the eldest and, we do have a middle sibling who was the youngest for 5 years and then, became the middle. Great poem dedicated to those in the middle. Great read!

Now I'm fine with it, not so as a youngster ( but it made me more independent!)

Well my dear Betty... I am the eldest child and always loved being in that position..
I just loved your poem and it immediately brought thoughts of my sister that was a bit over a year younger than me and for about 12 years she was the second child... the baby..
But then all of a sudden came Isabella... the baby, and the second child moved to the middle..
Fun to think about...and, all the many various middles you described..
loved it,

It seems no one is happy with their place in the birth order. The first born get responsibility for looking out for the others and everyone tells the baby what to do. Of course, Osama bin Laden was somewhere near the middle of fifty children. Maybe that's why he was so screwed up.

Thank dear John...ti took me to the "ancient" to get along with each one!

I call this parallelism. I like it. The author rides the middle of their ideas. I like that a lot! I'm a big brother with only a little. So i'll just just have to sit to the side that has a deeper rut. Now I want to know the title of your autobiography?
