THE SPLIT

THE SPLIT

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

love broken

THE SPLIT

I plead with you late

Don’t pluck my twine of passion

Splits my love in half

Death will fall ‘pon me

I shall not note your green eyes

Nor your scented skin

I shan’t let you die

Yet my heart is soon absent

My doubts heartfelt indeed

Though unrhymed, this one somehow makes me think of Keats, Shelley, Byron, and other English poets of the 19th century. Maybe even Poe. The relationship of love and death is present here, but the last verse gives the impression the love of the speaker was lacking in depth.
