THE DEMISEA Poem by Betty HermeleeseasonsTHE DEMISE In the morning mist I still see the blurry hues Leaves all fuse together A tapestry of Venus Sleepy sunrise Scales the treetops To unleash its fervor Wearisome leaves alter To a color wheel of splendor
Though transiently From afar, a cold front storm fumes Lashes out in all its wrath Beats down the yellow, orange, red pallet Its final demise Leaves diffuse, curl to a crumbly brown Snow smothers them Underneath, mingle with the earth’s crust Await The swell of buds In Spring
