THE RAIN LAUGHS

THE RAIN LAUGHS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

MOODS

"

THE RAIN LAUGHS

Before the foliage drips

With hues of color

All mingles into a rainbow

August soaks us to the core

Steam rises from black asphalt

Sweat pours from loaded leaves

Onto a sozzled earth

Clouds droop, light, suspended

Dark mountain peaks spy through crevices

Sounds of a drum beat as it pellets my skin

Whiffs of fresh pine

Tastes of fruity droplets

My spirit smiles in this immersion

Sun begs its presence

As the clouds dis-join

Shadows melt away

Leaves sag low

As my mood alters

To a pale blue

Skin dries like a prune

Patience shall heed

For the next sousing

Pellets will thrash my skin

Later my aura will dress in red

dearest Betty... we do have to put up with a lot of
laughter from the Rain at our expense... but somehow
the Charm of diamond drops keeps me focused on the
silver linings that are juxtapositioned on both sides of the sky...
we can choose to be sad or happy... according to our mood.
Autumn is a time to sigh and smile. gently, Pat

This is my third consecutive read of poems about rain...how amazing! More so because I love rain! You have captured the true mood of a rainy day in August...from steam rising from black asphalt to sun begs for its presence...how wonderfully you captured everything!

It was very well penned....thank you for sharing

You are so welcome!
Rains, storms, that's my favorite weather out of everything, so I always love any song, poetry, painting based off rain, and you absolutely delivered with this- this poem is the pinnacle of rain and perfectly explains and encaptures the feelings of why I love rain so much. If you showed this to someone who hated rain, they'd even have to admit there's a kind of beauty in the storm. Just like the rain, it felt refreshing to read. Wow, thank you for posting. This is a new favorite of mine!

Rainfall can be so refreshing to anything feeling parched. I enjoyed the imagery here and I felt warm summer rain embracing my too dry skin. Nicely conveyed Betty.

You're welcome.
Your imagery has captured August perfectly. As you say, moods change, and August puts that change into overdrive. It's no wonder more mass murders take place in that month than in any other.

The rain gets no appreciation. I've always loved it. I could smell it since I was a child, and others thought I was strange, so now, I don't make mention of it - at least not that often. But I truly love what you've done here, Betty. The poetic ambience you gave to rain falling - makes me wish I were standing in it at this very moment. Rain has become a commodity we seldom see here in California, so thank you for sharing the delight of it.
