THE ANNIVERSARY

THE ANNIVERSARY

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

25th Celebration

"

THE ANNIVERSARY

Babes in the womb

little did they discern

life itself intended their destiny

like a string of pearls that spans the ocean

their hunger for attachment

settled in a corner of their being

wrapped in a bow

nevermore to be untied

Distinct lifestyles

Over the years

Concealed their subconscious want

Yet sentiment flourished

Naught shall hinder

The kindling that swells

The loop was taught

Letters and calls faded

Aligned with the stars

Alas, their eyes met

Watery from absence

A boundless gaze

They tasted the honey of passion

Figures woven in a nest of energy

They wed in an eye blink of bliss

Begot two splendid children

Twenty-five years hence

They rejoice and kindle

Memories not in the least forgotten

Anniversaries are the clicks of time in relationship...like the Moon and her months...the Earth and her years...and then there is Saturn...with his severe rings that lash out at the twenty nine clicks of the clocks of time...
..."hunger for attachment
settled in a corner of their being
wrapped in a bow
nevermore to be untied"...
these lines rang bells in my consciousness...developmental necessity to survive?...could dissatisfaction with attachment to other be the core discontent with the sapien species extreme sensitivity among living beings?..as the Buddhist ennobling truths express, discontent is a necessity of being alive...we settle for the possibilities not the complete contentment we crave...
..." like a string of pearls that span the ocean..."
we are contained and connected in a social construct built by innumerable generations over millennia...
shaping a reality we all share...
..."They wed in an eye blink of bliss..."
the heart's love can leap us forward with the head dangling back trying to catch up...it is life's impulse to
execute the prime directive: " eat, survive, reproduce"

Wow, what deep and thoughtful review,
Thank you so much.
Best.B.
Twenty five years wed is quite an achievement. Needs alot of give and take to have a successful marriage. My 25th anniversary seems so long ago. We have celebrated our 38th recently. If this is about you Betty, then congratulations. So good to celebrate something in the difficult times we have all been going through. This is a lovely tale of how love ignited and has flourished over time.

Creative imagery and presentation, Betty. It is heartwarming to look back over the decades at just how we got some measure of pleasure from our own life choices -- good or bad. Even mistakes of haste blossomed into precious memories. Thanks, "The Anniversary" is a keeper. -- Doug
