THE TEMPEST

THE TEMPEST

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

furious storm in the cosmic world

"

THE TEMPEST

Millions of stars quiver

Moon and planets wiggle

Words buzz crack of doom nears

Monster storm, concealed forthwith

Clouds alarm the cosmic world

As they magnify into swirling monsters

Gray turns to black

Total darkness

Pellets of rain startle the cosmos

Stars weep in fright, assemble

Into tight circles, hold each

To sudden tear

Strive to endure

Colors drip, fade into clear

Wind whips them into shapeless molds

Alas, all fall to earth, damaged beyond

Moon’s face distraught, planets lose their sight

All is a blur as the tempest shows it might

the flooding is awful, so many dead...we cannot fight against Nature...it is a war we can not win, only try to survive.
and it happens in an instant...but the battle scars never go away.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, this seems inimitably apropos. A tempest often seems like the end of the world, but the sun does come out and the heavens align again. Thank you for your vivid description of such an event!

youre most welcome
This one makes Ida sound like an amateur. This is a real cosmic cataclysm which has the very stars weeping in terror. One is left to wonder if we are reading about a real tempest or the tempests that dwell in the human mind.
