CELEBRATORY BLUESA Poem by Betty HermeleeHYBRID Of EMOTIONSCELEBRATORY BLUES
Blossoms greet us With a sweet scent of dew Bird songs abound A tepid spring day My heart flutters Butterflies surround us We pause, eager to see the procession She, our only child, proud parents The band emits loud music Speeches go forth Alas, we watch her from afar A dot in a sea of black hats We access our opera glasses To bring her closer to our hearts The processional, pomp and glory A tear rolls down my cheek Names bellow out She anticipates her turn Tall, regal, full smile Now, the moment, sound, steady As she accepts her diploma with dignity Our mood is a hybrid of loss and pride
