NEWBORN REVEL

NEWBORN REVEL

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

From darkness to freedom

"

NEWBORN REVEL

Long tunnel of sickness

Dark, sooty, stinky, airless

Boredom, monotony, impatience

Horns reverberate, bounce off walls

Nowhere to hide, tunnel vision of life

Tortured by one routine

Locks us in as we struggle to accept our fate

Near the end, we discern light

Our psyche awakens

Darkness to yellow flame of sun

Stimulus of senses

Obscurity we sucked in for many months

Drives radiance to our souls

Releases us with newborn revel

We do reach the point where we want to dance and Revel in the Sunlight and Rain that awakens our constitution as we move forward to breathe the fresh air of Spring when we Dance with the breeze and revel in the Miracle of Rebirth.

Especially during dark Covid, re-birth is so important; to feel like a human being again!
Being stuck in the same routine day in and day out is daunting and before we know it our time is up

Sounds almost like a near death experience. I think the point of this one is to show that the often numbing experience of the day after day is not the whole story. Within it lies something greater, but we have to be alert for it.

I enjoyed this delightful poem with a beautiful message of hope and promise. We collectively can see the light, the end of the tunnel. Thanks for sharing this poem.

Thank you for a lovely review!
Best, Betty
Just waiting for the day when I don't hear the death toll.
Was thinking the other day, if we get seven days of no deaths I truly think we can get on with our lives.
Actually think every death should be registered in some way, maybe names on walls, but something to remind us.

Oh yes Betty. What a feeling of claustrophobia I got in that tunnel. We are just beginning to see some light over here, and soon we will have a bit more freedom. These lines have multi meanings, but right at the moment covid is with us all. Could equally apply to someone starting to emerge from depression. Excellent poetry.
