PEACE AND WARA Poem by Betty Hermeleeperiod peacePEACE AND WAR
Jagged white peaks tower Over steep grassy slopes, Veil of fog and clouds entwine Sleepy villages, farms, church spires Cows. pigs, donkeys and chickens sustain life In this worn-torn country Women weep for their men, far off, in danger
Love is ripped apart Merely flashbacks keep afloat Those left behind Govern the animals, land, families Children blow bubbles Never to realize Harsh, horrendous circumstances
A steadfast conscience is paramount Men reluctantly fight for another country Though some resist, oppose the cause Beaten in savage paths Never to surrender their moral sense Those who judge their own acts Suffer the impact Discern their fate An indisputable death
