SNOW GRAINS

SNOW GRAINS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Haiku- Snow

"

Pine trees sink with snow
as my heart senses its mood
black, white fuse as one

Frigid air keeps still
white stick branches creak, whine, groan
clear footprints breathe life

Snow grains on canvas
emerge in face of blackness
red-hued speck pops out

This one features really good nature imagery. More fascinating, though, is the way the poem weaves the speaker's emotions into the natural setting: White snow, black depression. The dichotomy continues in the second verse, with the melancholy sounds of the snow laden branches contrasted with the life affirming footprints. The contrasts continue through the first two lines of the last verse, and then that red hued speck appears. Not entirely sure of the meaning of this, but I'm thinking it's a life symbol.

Thank you for sharing outside your window with us Betty as well as this set of three haikus. Each one could stand alone or as you have presented them in a set of three. Beautifully descriptive and oh, so cold. We also have very cold weather, and a few flurries but no settled snow yet. Now will you be venturing outside to build yourself a snowman? Take care my friend.
