SNOW GRAINS

SNOW GRAINS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Haiku- Snow

"

Pine trees sink with snow
as my heart senses its mood
black, white fuse as one

Frigid air keeps still
white stick branches creak, whine, groan
clear footprints breathe life

Snow grains on canvas
emerge in face of blackness
red-hued speck pops out

This one features really good nature imagery. More fascinating, though, is the way the poem weaves the speaker's emotions into the natural setting: White snow, black depression. The dichotomy continues in the second verse, with the melancholy sounds of the snow laden branches contrasted with the life affirming footprints. The contrasts continue through the first two lines of the last verse, and then that red hued speck appears. Not entirely sure of the meaning of this, but I'm thinking it's a life symbol.

Poetic Beauty

Unfortunately I find it cold bleak, dreary and void of color
dearest Betty... Being a Bird lover... I could imagine a bright Red Cardinal
in the misty snow laden branches. We are expecting some Snow today...
we shall see. It has been about two weeks since you wrote your poem.
Here in Fredericksburg, Virginia, by the Rappahannock River, we have a lot of
older Pine trees for snow to fall softly like little Guilts of Patchwork memories.
Alway enjoy your poetry. gently, Pat

Thanks Pat for your lovely review, as always

Your words are very descriptive. I imagined myself on one of my winter hikes as I was reading, right down to the cardinal's appearance! Well done.

Great job painting the scene using imagery that pops visuals into the reader's mind. The heaviness of your observations make it feel like the weight of the winter is upon the narrator's soul. As much as I detest cold, this scene would bog me down too! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Snow grains _ you mean ice drops or path is covered with them

Certainly, the fir tree branches droop under the snow gloves
The birds peck at the ice seeking water (We gave them some)

It is a different world today
Thanks for the images

I really meant snow grains, instead of snow flakes; thanks for the kind review
