STILL

STILL

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

relationships

"
Slightly wrinkled hands
weave through his thin white hair
his lips widen
she blushes with content
albeit, senses the chasm between them

The carnal blend vanishes
she foresees uncertainty
his spiritual scarcity is explicit
all the same, she tries to justify the abyss

Often, his mind loses her patience
she struggles to embrace his psyche
he preoccupies with elapsed memories

She appeals to her persuasion for help
her stamina wanes
a kind spirit reaches out

She affirms the gift
hesitates to trust
yet she desires his presence
no matter how unsound his judgement

I remember a time when I didn't reminisce so much, so I'm grateful to know I'm not alone and it's probably a guy thing, living in the past instead of appreciating the now.
Maybe a gentle reminder to him that you'll take his Rose tinted glasses and stick them somewhere the sun don't shine will bring him back to his senses.
Worked for me, but I do walk with a limp now 😊

Damn, Betty...I had relationships like this...and that was when we were both young....

Love this piece.

What a really great poem. It is deep yet touches the surface in a wonderful dichotomy. The last verse hits the unconditional soul...'She affirms the gift
hesitates to trust
yet she desires his presence
no matter how unsound his judgement'
