FLUTTER

FLUTTER

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

anxiety

"
Hummingbird flutter
shreds my gut
agitates the peace
no method to shut
my alter ego seeks it best
to settle this critter
down to rest

On one hand, I love it when a poet combines things unexpectedly . . . comparing hummingbird to anxiety is a slap in the face! I kinda want to cling to the traditional hummingbird imagery (grace), so I'm not crazy about this comparison, but I love how it's totally original (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Sometimes the cause is apparent - but only sometimes. Its often a gut reaction to a 'What" we've yet to recognize.

Anxiety well described Betty. Love the metaphor you have used here.

they do seem like anxious birds, don't they...I like metaphor here, and the near rhyme with "flutter" and "critter" ala Emily Dickinson.
