ARCTICA Poem by Betty HermeleeWinter in the northWindswept islands rise from icy waters deep folds in sheer rocks tunnels ripple through them sun dances above the horizon eternal light eves darkness recoils White sand beaches sweep the shoreline clear, shallow aquamarine water sandy bottom fertile rolling hills stretch to the granite mountains Moose graze the high rocky cliffs winter sweeps the sun away hides behind the sea line Darkness infiltrates for months bitter cold forces the farmers into their warm, cozy huts until seasons reverse
