Inner Beauty

Inner Beauty

A Poem by Deepika

Shining stars are sumptuous illusion,

You try getting closer and they just burn

Glittering diamond looks absolutely fine,

Yet, it’s nothing more than a tough stone

Personality is just an outer norm,

You decorate it with pearls and gem

But character is an inner facet,

It’s worth more than things hidden in a closet

Does flawless skin define your appeal?

I can bleach my skin and look aesthetic

You say there’s an end to my cosmetic?

I say there’s an end to your glamour as well

How long can you pretend as a pleaser?

Someday you’ll fall under pressure

If you ever had inner beauty,

It’d follow you till your eternity

Gold is hidden deep down,

Roses are surrounded by thorn,

Lotus opens up in a stinky pond,

Inner beauty’s got no correspond!

Deepika..This is a great piece of writing. The way you have used your words are really nice. This poem makes a strong statement indeed about inner beauty which I too personally believe in.There is nothing great of looking handsome from outside and having a killer heart inside you..Well written poem.

I will definitely give 95/100..

Thank you Abdul :) that means a lot :)
I really got to say you've done a great job of writing this poem. I love the way you use the imagery for visuals. I can tell it was smart. I also like the way you let the metaphors and imagery do the talking of the theme. And speaking of the theme, its great to know how you intreperite the dark side of being a star. It's so amazing. But overall I'll have to give this poem a 5/5

Writing 5/5
Imagery 4.9/5
Story telling 5/5

No problem :) If you get a chance check out my newest poem :)
There is so much wisdom imparted by this write.

Upon reading this Deepika, I remembered a saying 'You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear' - things that are worthless can't be made valuable by peripheral adornments ("...things hidden in a closet...") - same goes for people. Outer beauty is fleeting.

I was very impressed by the final stanza with its creative examples and the punchline.
Thank you for the RR dear poet. :))
