A dejected Mango tree

A dejected Mango tree

A Poem by Deepika

I'm just fed up of standing at a place all the time,

Curtailing the wind's freedom with my stretched arm,

Though I'm not as light to float like those love birds,

I Envy heavy Elephants that stroll leisurely in the woods!

I'm bound to tolerate the Imps that throw stones at me,

Or the Dogs that find my roots cozy to dirt and pee,

Or the Squirrels that peck at my fruits,

And throw them off when they taste sour;

Or the Ants that make holes at my roots,

And cause tingle by marching all over;

I'll have to wait till the sky realizes I'm thirsty,

Can't plead the sun to be cool when she's red angry,

Can't lie down like you when I'm not doing well,

I'm sure to be mistaken for a lazy log and put on a sale!

Though the birds decorate me with their cages,

They shift someday while I remain rooted here for ages,

I have no one who could hug me and say:

"I'm there with you till your doomsday!"

Did you not intend to add "you" in the last line, to read "I am there with you till your doomsday?"

Lovely poem! I have a few tree poems floating in my head, though I have not written any from the point of view of the tree yet......even though you wrote this from a humorous point of view, I detect a serious undertone of how flippant we often treat nature. If we respect nature, it will bless us more, even if it is ol a tree we look after properly. :)

Hahaha this tickled my funny bone! A mango tree...it's of special significance to me. Your personification of a mango tree as an outlet of your emotions was refreshing! Well written!

Thank you so much friend..Glad you enjoyed it:)
Very nicely described from a point of view of a tree. Sometimes in our lives we too become like a standing tree- helpless & lonely but not numb.

Nice poem.
