ChangeA Chapter by DeepikaThe secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but building the new --SocratesFrom infant to
toddler, sequenced by childhood, adolescence up till death, a human witnesses
several transformations not merely physical but mental, emotional , social and
moral. Perhaps not all the phases of growth are welcome by most, but they are
rather inevitable. And it’s at the transitional phases most of us stumble where
Newton’s law of inertia celebrates its triumph. We find it too sweet to just
leave behind our bygone notorious childhood where we successfully deceived the
shop keeper and commemorated on those extra toffees or find it too hard to
overcome that bummer adolescence where we tussled hard to get past a bad
breakup. Change is not refrained to a person alone, but we label the change
involving mass as a revolution! Significance of change is not as simple
as mugging up those history lessons on various civilizations. Not to forget,
it’s the need to ‘change’ that has augmented the evolution tree with the
powerful concept of Homo sapiens apparently from the primitive Apes.
Changes that are
responsible for personal growth demands a person’s will power while those
changes like that of civilizations are intimately associated with social-political-economic
factors along with the primary factor being the ‘desire to change’. Nothing
ventured, nothing gained says it all " the basic requirement to get
something is to break the routine and voyage towards the desires. While certain
incidents could change Buddha’s mind compelling him to sacrifice all worldly
pleasures and adding pages to history by his achievements then on, a basic
desire to lead an independent life gave birth to many revolutions in the form
of struggles.
The capacity to
adapt has become important to sustain. In the name of upgradation we often tend
to vest our hard earned money over those changing technologies to get few extra
features and have upper hand over peers.
As we know if
nothing ever changed there would b no butterflies. Changes in most cases can
make our situation better than before, provided our endurance is strong enough
to wait and our efforts are hard enough for the fruitful results. Say an
overpass project may block the road for several weeks and cause discomfort, but
when completed we might prefer that new route. Changes good or bad are
accompanied by discomforts and drawbacks. Yet its success lies in opting for
one and looking forward for a better future!
