HabitsA Chapter by DeepikaTake control of your habits, Take control of your lifeEnjoying those 10
minutes extra sleep after the alarm starts snoozing, having an early morning
stroll, sipping those extra cup of coffees while newspaper dances in hand,
missing the morning train just by 10 minutes delay , cursing the boss for not
understanding your justification ,getting used to it as a daily morning
chanting.. Every series of your actions and their consequences ,perhaps
you would like to call it your fate revolves around those regular tendencies
that you build on, your “Habits”! Habit, the word by
itself could be demonstrated as unbreakable. Trying to eliminate the letters
from the left, eliminating the first letter leaves you with ‘abit’ (a bit)
which shows it still endures, followed by ‘bit’ still there, ‘it ‘ you haven’t
still reasonably given it up and finally ‘T’(tea) which is also a habit. That
was just a dry humor on the word and it’s robustness. Yet, a habit
unmistakably is not easy to be given up! The strange thing about habits
are we define them through our actions, and in course of time define us. Our father of nation Mahatma Gandhi quotes habit as follows:“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words, Which clearly shows
there is a direct relation between what we what ought to be and what we do! Based on our
thoughts our habits can be classified as either good or bad. While good habits
catapult us towards a bright future, bad habits become a bane to our life. Good
habits may need an extra effort to get along as a pattern while bad habits find
their way into one’s life easily. As the saying goes ‘Bad habits
are like your comfortable beds, easy to get into, cozy to continue, hard to get
out’! There may be several factors that direct our actions into our habits out
of which the people that we surround ourselves with, the routines/things that
gives us comfort being the prominent ones. Good habits are acquired by practice
that takes significant time while bad habit take the form of addiction that
become hard to let go.
Since in the course
of time our habits start manifesting as our dispositions, it’s in our hand to
let them grow or cut them off when they are still at their inceptive stage. As
we are very well aware which of them serves better in the long run, if we are
not proud enough to share our habits then it's a time we change them. © 2015 Deepika |
