A Promise Not KeptA Poem by Miles WilburnA simple promise.. not kept.
I kept a promise in a box, and swore I'd never break the lock,
But I wanted a peek at the prize so I slammed the box not once but twice The box I rattled, the lock stood strong, but then you had to come along... I was willing to simply let it be, the box stood strong, stood strong for me But you were just too set in your ways, you jumped on the box and I saw it frayed My box was broke but I held it tight like a vacuum was reaching into my mind But then I finally said those words The box disappeared, and the promise was broke. © 2012 Miles Wilburn |
