The Old UsA Poem by Miles WilburnIf you put love in a box in the attic and then took the box out a year later wanting to have that feeling back, this would be that poem.
We've faded
We packed up our memories Kissing you, hugging you, loving you put them away for a while We put distance between us to shelter ourselves from the pain splinters of our relationship, our friendship cutting deep inside. Were reconstructing, nothing short of the sign unpacking our feelings, pressed down into the box pulling out love, and happiness throwing away sadness, and remembering the good times I want us to build back I want a relationship any relationship I need you I want you I love you Uncovering mental pictures words, songs, hopes, fears dreams, life, bones, soul, spirit mind, throwing them out, talking about them reflecting, collecting, improving, removing But I hide how I feel in poems and I don't really talk that much about my past or my feelings. I want to be invincible but I cant I need to open up again, remove this armor cast off these fears, embrace you, let you in I need you in my life, I need your love And I drink too much, too often but only to cover the fact that I miss you, and I hurt from my regrets, and my memories I promise I would never hurt you I'd never touch it again if I could have you I just want that closeness we used to have I'd give you my world I'd give you anything just to hold you So I'll keep building and working on what we had just so I can have the old us back. © 2011 Miles Wilburn |
