The Strange Adventures of Andrew Barnes. Chapter Seven.

A Chapter by Ben

The next day, I was awoken by an alarm clocking going off. I stopped it and looked at it. It was 6 o’clock. Rubbing my eyes, I heard Alex get up and walk out of the room. I fell back asleep.

An hour later, I was woken up by a loud bell ringing. I opened my eyes and saw a bell on a string ringing loudly. Out of the speaker at the end of my bed I heard Alex call out,

“Wake up! You’re an hour late! It’s time for breakfast!” I slowly sat up. Rubbing my eyes again, I got out of bed. There was a pair of jeans, white t-shirt, and a leather jacket sitting on my desk.

I took them and put them on. Yawning, I walked downstairs into the living room. I saw a door open, so I walked over to it and went in.

“Hi Andrew. You’re the first one down here,” Jere said as he fried some eggs over a six burner stove. I looked around the kitchen. In the middle of the room was a counter with a sink in it. To my right was the stove, and above it a microwave. To the left of the stove was a large oven.

There was some counter space with a cutting board on it. There was a gap and then a huge refrigerator. The wall was covered with fruits repeating themselves around the whole room.

Alex came out of another room and said, “The breakfast room is this way sir!” I laughed and followed him out the room he came out of. The room was rather small, but elegant. There was a table with six chairs around it. Sunshine filled up the room, giving it a cheery look. There was another door at the other side of the room. On the table, there was a pretty bowl of fruit. I walked over to it and took a pear. Rubbing it on my sleeve, I took a bite. Juice squirted out of it and dripped down my chin. The pear had a thousand different tastes, and the flesh was pure white. I took another large bite and swallowed.

“Tastes good, doesn’t it?” Jere said as he came out of the kitchen, carrying the frying pan, He ladled three perfect fired eggs on my plate. I sat down in a chair and started eating. Jere gave Alex three eggs and walked out the room.

“Good morning Andy, Alex!” Sue came skipping into the room. Nothing ever dampens her spirits. I thought as I shoveled the eggs in my mouth. I just noticed how hungry I was. I hadn’t eaten since breakfast yesterday. Jon and Laura came in a few minutes later and sat down on either side of me. Sue sat down next to Alex as Jere came in. He put three eggs on each of the other’s plates, along with bacon and grits. He put a glass of milk in front of us and gave Alex and me some bacon and grits. Then he sat down at the head of the table and put eggs, bacon, and grits on his own plate.

After we finished an amazing breakfast, we all went outside to target practice. Both Laura and Sue were a little nervous about shouting a gun. I was a little scared too.

“Now, don’t worry, it’s not that bad. Now put these goggles and earplugs on and then I’ll teach you how to shoot it,” Jere said. We all put them on and Jere continued, “Now, you hold the gun in two hands, like this,” we all looked as he put his right thump over his left. “Now, you don’t pull the trigger quickly, you pull it slowly back, like this.” He slowly pulled the trigger back. It seemed like hours until it finally shot. BANG! We all jumped except Alex and Jere. Then we all tried.

After several tries, I had had enough. I put my gun in my pocket and walked inside. I was joined by the rest. Laura was still shaking. He had shot one round, but all of them were too high. Jon hit a bull’s eye on all twenty of his shots. I had fired twenty also, but I only got twelve of them. Sue was too scared to shoot it. She insisted on shooting a blank. After that, he shot ten bullets and hit two. The whole time, Alex was practicing shooting his Ak-47.

“Well, you all did well today,” Jere said we sat around the TV, watching the news.

Suddenly, we heard a huge explosion outside and the door was blown open. In the light from the moon, I could see a silhouette of a man, standing in the doorway. I heard sue scream as there was a flash of white and the TV exploded. Alex jumped up and grabbed his AK-47. He fired a whole round. I let out a shout of joy. The man, who was actually the robot, split in two. In amazement, I saw as the robot mended itself back together and raised a gun in his hand.

“Down!” I heard Jere yell. We ducked as another flash of white soared of our heads. I heard a small Click. And then a huge blast came from the robot. Instead of a white flash, it was red. As it hit the already destroyed TV, the light broke apart and thousands of little beams of red soared in every direction. A few hit my back and I yelled out in pain. Jere jumped up, holding a shotgun. He cocked it and fired it at the robot. He yelled, “Come on!” and we all dashed past a totally split in two robot and ran towards to the truck.

When we reached it, we swung the doors open and dashed inside. The doors closed behind us, and Jere slammed on the gas. We zoomed off into the setting sun, closely followed by a robot on a motorcycle.
