It seemed only seconds after I fell asleep that I was roughly woken up. I opened my eyes to find Alex staring down at me. I sat up quickly and yawned. I noticed we had stopped. I looked out the window and saw what looked like an empty lot. But, farther back, I could see a large tractor trailer. I stood up and walked out the truck with everyone else.
“How long have I been sleeping?” I asked as Jere lead us towards the trailer. Jere laughed and replied,
“About ten minutes.” I joined him in laughing for a little while. We reached the tractor trailer and Jere walked up to a small square box that stuck out of the trailer. It had nine buttons on it, numbered zero through nine. Jere punched in at the buttons for a long time. I couldn’t see how we were going to get in.
“Um, Jere? How are we supposed to get in? There’s no door,” I asked.
Jere smiled as he finished punching in the last button and replied, “You’ll see.”
Suddenly, there was a loud crunching sound, and an invisible door opened into the trailer. There was a sound of metal rubbing metal, and three steps came out of the bottom of the trailer. My eyes widened as we stepped inside. Just like the truck, it was much larger on the inside than what it looked like on the outside. It was 3,000 square feet at least, and it looked like Sue and Jon’s house. The room we entered was the living room. A large 60 inch flat screen TV was on the opposite side of us. There were three large couches around the TV, as if they were finishing the last three sides of a square. On either side of each couch, there was a small table with a lamp on it. On all the walls there were many paintings of scenery. On the left and right sides of the wall, there were two doors. In the left corner, there was a metal spiral staircase heading up and down.
“This is our house. It’s not much, but it’ll work,” Jere said was he walked over to the staircase. Laura stood there with her mouth hanging open. He looked over at me and mouthed, It’s not much? I smiled and shrugged. Sue and Jon didn’t really look around, but just walked over to Jere. Alex flung himself down on one of the couches and fell asleep immediately.
“Follow me please,” Jere called out to Laura and me. We rushed over to him and we went up the staircase. I looked up and saw three landings. Laura also looked up and her mouth fell open again, but this time even wider.
We went up to the third floor. There were four doors to our left and right, and six doors behind us and in front of us. Jere pointed to two doors on our right and said,
“Those are your bedrooms. Alex will be joining you after he has had his nap, Jon, Andrew.” We thanked him and went to the door and the right. My eyes widened even farther than before at the sight.
“Wow,” Jon exclaimed. There were four beds, each king size, with at least fifty pillows on them. Next to each bed was a desk on the right, which held a TV, computer, and a gaming system called Wii II. On the left was a small table like the ones on the first floor, and a lava lamp on it. At the end of the bed, there was a strange box with a small speaker on it. I took off my shoes and jumped on my bed. I sank two feet into it. Jon did the same. I thought what sounded like a laugh come from him. That was the first time I had ever heard him laugh.
“Well Jon, do you have anything like this in your room?” I asked. Jon answered me with the sound of snoring.
“Sleep on my friend, sleep on.”
