The Strange Adventures of Andrew Barnes. Chapter Two:Onward to School

A Chapter by Ben

“Arrggg!!!” I screamed as the school bus pulled away from my house. I had missed it. Throwing my backpack on me, I sprinted down my slanted driveway and started running down the road, waving my arms frantically, while yelling,

“Stop! Hey! Stop the bus!” I caught up to the bus and started pounding on the side of it. The bus driver finally noticed me and slammed on the brakes. I didn’t see him stop, so I kept on running. Big mistake. SMACK! I hit my head hard on the rear view window. I made a soft Thump as I hit the ground. The bus driver, or as the kids at school called him Mr. Wreckage, because he was a bad driver, came out of the bus and walked up to me.

“Kid, you all right?” Mr. Wreckage asked as he pulled me up off the hard pavement. I nodded and clambered aboard. I was greeted with a leg to my stomach by the school bully, Timothy. I crumpled to the floor yet again. I heard loud yells of enjoyment from him and his cronies. I stood up and frowned at Timothy and walked over to my friend, Laura. She smiled at me and said,

“Those boys are just bullies, ignore them.” I nodded and felt my stomach. It was alright, at least this time.

Laura had bright blue eyes and blond hair. She w***e a plain white shirt with a bright green jacket over it. Most of her chucks were covered up by her jeans.

A few minutes later, the bus stopped again. We pulled up to a huge house. It had fifty windows on the front of it and the front yard was a huge garden. It was Sue and Jon’s house. Their parents were doctors, and were very wealthy. I saw two blobs come out of the front door. The blobs grew bigger and bigger until you could tell they were two children.

Sue and Jon were twins, with strange white hair. Sue had pale green eyes, while Jon had sad, grey eyes. Today, Sue was wearing a pink shirt with a smiley on it. She w***e a denim skirt that went down to her knees. Jon w***e his usual jeans, black tee-shirt, and a sport jacket. They were both quite chubby.

They walked past us and sat down in the seats in back of us. Sue, in her usual manner, jumped up on her seat and crossed her arms and smiled at us.

“Good morning Andy! Good morning Laura!” Sue said joyfully and looked at me. Her smile widened as she saw what I looked like. Just then I noticed what I was wearing. A blue, wrinkled sweater, my pajama bottom, and beat up boots. My black hair stuck up in one place from sleeping on it all night. Sue giggled and Laura said,

“Wow Andy,” she giggled also. “You look really, um nice… Erm, I think.” She giggled again. After several minutes of giggling, both girls burst out laughing. Jon turned around and said solemnly to me,

“I brought an extra pair and jeans along. You’re welcome to wear them. You’ll have to give them back though.” He handed me a slightly small pair of jeans to me.

“Thanks a bunch Jon. Will you be quiet please?!” I yelled. The girls were still laughing outrageously. They stopped immediately, and tried to stifle the noise.

“You’ve got to admit, it was pretty funny!” Sue said. After a few moments of silence, we all burst out laughing. All except Jon of course.

Suddenly, the bus gave a enormous lurch, and it started to fall over to the right. Everyone in the bus yelled and screamed loudly. Mr. Wreckage quickly yanked the wheel to the left. The bus landed on the ground and halted. Mr. Wreckage turned around and called out,

“Is everyone alright?” there was a chorus of ‘Yes,’ and Mr. Wreckage turned around again and continued to drive on. The bus was filled with the buzz of voices. I felt slightly dizzy. I almost fell of the seat. Laura grabbed me tightly on my shoulder and asked,

“Are you alright?” I nodded and sat up straight. In the distance I could see our school, Littleville Middle School. Sue’s eyes were as large as baseballs. She was scared. In a shaky voice, she asked us,

“What do you think that was?” Laura and I shrugged. Jon turned around to face us and said,

“Isn’t it obvious? Mr. Wreckage obviously lost control of the bus. He probably spun the wheel to the right, causing the reaction that made the bus turn sharply. It made it tip over.” He nodded and turned around and started off into the distance.

My eyebrows soared up into my scalp until you couldn’t see them. Laura and Sue started laughing again and Jon made what sounded like a snort. I smiled and turned to face the window. Today was a strange day
