Missing Out

Missing Out

A Poem by Owls in the City
"

Lyrical content for a song

"
cars
whisper
through the rain

secrets only told
on the road
stretched through the fog
of my window

birds
transpire
on the wire

passing the rumor
around
while i'm left helpless
on the ground

i am
missing out

i have the feeling
that i'm missing
out

the crowd
roars
like a lion

she's led away
by six gentlemen
once
the curtain closes

she grips the tear-soaked interior
of
a limousine

across the sea
a face she resembles
smiles at the dancing flames
of five birthday candles

he begs by the gate
to great
neon pyramids

across the street
the girls take their bids
while he thinks
"as if vegas doesn't age us..."

back in 1961
he'd rise
before the sun

to see the lights of heaven
when he was seven
behind the desert
horizon

i am
missing
out

i have the feeling
that i'm missing
out

i am
missing
out

i just have the feeling
that i'm missing
out
