You've Taken My HandA Poem by Benjamin Edgar WilliamsWhen love happens, the eye is centered on the loved. The journey began with a touch, a smile, with grace in your eyes and warmth on your lips. You enchanted me and I reached for your embrace. There, I found solace and life. Your hand was soft, as you fingered my brow and whispered assurances of safe passage. You looked into my soul and translated the language of my heart. You found your name repeated countless times in my being and understood the melodies that birthed each time your name echoed my mind’s halls. It is for you that I run to sleep, to dream of treasures and adventures to pursue and yet, I am all the more eager to awake to see dawn flood your face each morning. There is no natural sleep of this life that can keep me from you. You are my most sought-after punctuation of my life’s expression " the pauses, the exclamations, the questions and even the joyful expletives. I am not your completion " I am your partner and we climb and descend together. Our eye is focused on the realities of tomorrow that we vision today. We smell its savor and marry the taste in our mouths. Our hands feel the tow of its bearing today. Words diminish in talent while attempting to render the ecstasy I find in your presence. There is nothing in my past or shadow of unrealized dreams that dare exalt itself to the union of me to you. Thank you for allowing me to hold your hand.
