The street walker

The street walker

A Poem by Ben

Why I Always Wear Sandals
When I returned from China in 2012, I subconsciously then consciously just constantly always preferrably wore sandals.  Coming back from a city like Beijing where hardly any birds even dwell, let alone squirrels or any trace of nature, where you are not allowed to walk on the grass in the parks, but must stay on the sidewalks. i felt, upon returning back not only a profound joy in eating Cheese and every restaurant I had been missing, but also a profound staunch sense that the streets and sidewalks were clean, not congested, and a pace considerably slowed down.
Still six years later, im still wearing my flip-flops and my sandals, even when its ridiculous or absurd to, I just love wearing them, for the reminder, that for my naturally worried, hurried, fretting mind, for my tendency to want to rush nowhere fast, for a reminder that I am comparatively blessed, priviledged and free to be unrushed, relaxed and to really enjoy my space, and breathe, the still very imperfect and tainted by modern primitive machines air, yet still very much, comparatively speaking, fresh decent air. My only regret is that I still need the flip-flops, that I still somehow, greatly am in need of this reminder.
