Run With Me

Run With Me

A Poem by Ben Barton

Take my hand, just one last time
And we'll commit the perfect crime
Escape under a twilight sky
Is this really do or die?
100 years will come and go
I'll still run with you in tow
Through mountains high and valleys low
There's no-one else I'd rather know
The sun is high, our shadows long
There's no telling where time's gone
So listen for the starter's gun
Drop your head and start to run
We'll find the house I built for you
Just after you said "I do"
Tell it once and tell it true
You love me and I love you
They told us to let it be
"Time will tell, just wait and see"
We always said that we'd be free
So take my hand and run with me

I actually wrote this accompany a piece of instrumental music, but it works well enough on its own. Let me know what you think!

This makes me think of one last chance. The place where two people are on the verge of goodbye and yet, there is a plea for one last try. Just my take, and I very well could be just relating to my own experiences. This is very romantic and has taken me back on a very sweet journey.

Thanks Ellen! Simplicity was right at the heart of this piece, so I'm glad it comes across that way!.. read more
