Fate v.s. Will

Fate v.s. Will

A Poem by BelleMell

You and I are so very different, young gentleman.

Because you steer your life's ship with both hands.

You know what you want and you've developed your own destiny,

And never would you be satisfied if someone else wrote your story.

It is not pride, it is drive.

You feel you've been given this life, and you will do with it what you like.

As for me,

I have a different belief.

I will let the winds of fate direct my sails.

I feel I am brave enough to distrust my own will.

But how will you know if fate's story surpasses your own?

What I've learned from fate,

and heard from both young and old

The happiness my own heart could create

Is nothing compared to what sweet fate has already foretold.

I like your analogy of steering a ship and the wind directing, works really well. I always ponder the whole "fate" thing and am still a fence-sitter, not knowing if I ascribe to it. I think at times, I have stayed passive when I should have gone for something, doing the "if it's meant to be..." thing and then regretted it. There's perhaps a middle ground somewhere. I enjoyed reading your poem, gave me more reasons to reconsider my stance in life. Justine

In the winds of fate lay the true living of a life well fulfilled. You and the younger I are very like minded. I love what you are doing. I do work in the motion picture industry and some of the greatest stories ever told come from situations handed out by fate.

Very nice write....you know who you are..it might change with time..but at that moment you were refreshingly honest. You saw his strength and did not try to emulate it..that says you have strength of you own.
A very interesting subject.
You did well.
