Waiting for YouA Story by Bella-MarieI like it XD Lemmie know if you do too.
Parents crying... a simple funeral... as sad stillbirth threatens to tear the family apart.
But one thing keeps them strong... the dead baby's twin, alive and kicking. Both the parents and the dead girl's soul make a unified promise to the living little girl... "We'll be with you, in life and in death." Sitting in the Church. Staring at the high walls and engraved ceiling. The hard, uncomfortable bench not a problem. People trickle in. Soon, many are lining the church seats. They all want a glimpse of Rebecca and Samuel's first little baby, decked out in white christening robes. The christening is held. The baby sucks her thumb and whimpers as the water touches her forehead. She looks gorgeous in the white lace. Her parents coo from the side as the Pastor blesses the child. Rebecca makes a small speech about Baby May's twin sister, April, who died stillborn. The congregation makes their way to the hall for the morning tea provided. Everything blurred... a small baby growing up into a big girl, then a lady... her face getting maturer, wiser, more beautiful then cute... she holds hands with a boy her age during the services... her golden hair is curly and bouncy, her eyes shine green with happiness... Sitting in the Church. Inspecting the tattered bible tucked away in the arm of the bench. The new cushions underneath are comfortable. People trickle in. Soon, the church is overflowing with people in their finery. They all want to see May and Gerad's white church wedding. The wedding is held. May looks stunning in her white sation dress. Gerad is dashing in his black suit and shirt. They look so in love. Their parents sit at the front - Fathers sniffing, Mothers' sobbing. The celebrant announces them Man and Wife. The church body erupts into cheers. Everyone is ushered outside into the Marquee, where snacks are laid out to be eaten. Everything is blurred... a young woman growing up into a kind old lady... her face getting lined with age, but kinder with experience... her children are chirstened, they come with her to service... she keeps on holding her husband's hand until the day he dies... then her parents' funerals are held too... her eyes become darker with sadness and grief... Sitting in the Church. Watching a spider creep up the old, cracking walls. The new benches are not as nice as the old ones. People trickle in. Soon, the church is filled with children, grandchildren, friends, relatives. People crying, people mourning. Many, many in black. The Pastor, small and aged, reads from the Bible in a shaky voice and invits family or friends to speak about May's life. They do. They talk about the good times, but they simply don't talk about her tragic, suicidal death. And May is sitting beside me, her face confused but calm. She watches the funeral. Then she turns to me. "April?" she asks hesitantly, taking in my face - the exact same as hers. I smile and we embrace. Her ghostly body is stronger than the one lying in the coffin in front of us. "How come you're here?" she asks when the stop hugging. "I've been with you in this Church every step of your life," I tell her gently, and her eyes fill with tears. "It was you!" she says, "I thought I was dreaming. No wonder I loved church!" We laugh together, and then stand. This church has served it's purpose... for both of us. As we walk into the blinding light of Heaven, I say to May "I've been waiting for you." May replies "I know." © 2010 Bella-MarieAuthor's Note
