Drop Dead Bells

Drop Dead Bells

A Story by Bella-Marie

True story.

With the sun beating against my back, sit down next to Beth and read over her shoulder. The book is interesting, and I am quickly immersed in the horrors of surgery.

Our class settles down, talking in whispers, and soon the noise level is reduced to nothing. Welcoming the silence, I get comfortable and read.

After a few minutes, a queer feeling comes over me. My eyesight goes blurry and green, like when you've looked wt the sun for too long, or when your eyes have been pushed into their sockets for a long time. Blinking, I wait for the feeling to pass.

It doesn't.

I get a bit panicky - I start breathing heavily, trying to rid myself of this feeling. Then, to my horror, my hearing goes paculiar, and it feels like I'm listening to myself breathing through a tin.

I stand up and find my balance is terrible. I'm swaying back and forth, trying to steady myself.

Walking shakily to the teacher, I ask "I feel really, really sick."

Well, what should the teacher say? 'Okay then, go to the sick bay.'

No, he says "Do you need a drink of water?"

WHAT???

I answer faintly "No, I think I need to go to the sick bay."

I felt like rolling my eyes with exasperation, but I am given a nod of approval and so walk dizzily across the classroom, trying to feel my way to the door.

BANG! I hit something hard, and that small jolt tips me over easily. Landing on my tailbone, I am overcome with a sharp stacatto burst of pain before everything goes black.

"Up you go..."

The voice of the teacher. Hands gripping my forearms. Feet finding the floor. Stunned silence all around me.

"Wha... what's happening to me?"

I slip back into unconciousness...

And now brightness, the brightness of the sun. And the pain of concrete on my back. Opening my eyes, I see another teacher - a lady teacher - elevating my legs above the ground. She's looking at me worriedly, asking people "What happened?"

My eyesights returning, and I can slowly hear people more clearly. A wave of confusion washes over me and a tear dribbles out of the corner of my eye.

"Bella?"

"Bella? Can you hear me?"

"Y... yes."

"She hit her head." The voice of my class teacher.

"Bella, what is the day today?"

Crap. I don't know. Think Bella, before they send you to hospital!

"M... Monday?"

"What's my name?"

Crap. I don't know. I won't bother thinking.

"What's his name?"

My class teacher comes into view.

"Uh..."

But I remember.

And suddenly my mother's work number swarms into my brain and I'm overcome with another wave... a wave of seven numbers, jumbled, in the right order...

And then everything's okay. They've rung my mother to collect me, my bag is in the sick bay, my bike is in the classroom, I'm tentaively standing and walking in the direction of the sick bay.

Wow... what a afternoon!!!

Is it really? What happened? It's very descriptive and yet mysterious at the same time. What did happen to you? I really want to know!
