Chapter 7

"

Dad was raging. I mean raging. He was almost crying with rage.

"THAT IS NO WAY TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE! DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY WAS SPENT ON A COUNCILLOR FOR YOU?"

So on and so forth.

Mum stood in the corner the whole time, chewing her fingernails. I wanted to shout "MUM, HELP ME!" but I knew I had inflicted this upon me myself. So I grinned and bore it.

Until the next day.

School was heavenly. I had never had so much fun at school, and many people noticed.

"You're a lot happier today!"

"Hey Darcey, give us a smile! You're sure doing it a lot!"

However, it was my teacher who was the icing on the cake. "You don't need any more councilling sessions," were his words. I felt like screaming with joy.

Home was hell.

Mum was at home, sure, and she treated it like it was a normal day. But as soon as Dad stormed in the door once more, I remembered why school had been so fun. Grimmancing, I quickly left the comfort of the living room and the TV to lounge, bored on my bed.

Dad, however, wouldn't leave me alone.

"Hon'," he called, "Over here for a sec."

I sighed, knowing he would eat into me about everything that went wrong last night.

Dad looked very calm when I entered the Living Room. Mum was almost smiling.

"Your behaviour," he began, and then I switched off.

When I was allowed to go, I made sure he didn't see any of my rude gestures - but Mum saw them plain as day.

"Rebel," she uttered, but she was smiling as she said it.

That made me so, so much happier.

Life was bearable.

But I still had a day of torture.
