Therapist coversationA Story by Bella-MarieIs it good?Younique looked up as soon as Meya entered the room. She took off her glasses, placed them carefully on the desk and smiled demurely at Meya. "Sit down," Younique offered. Meya stood for a single moment, contemplating the request. Then, Meya dragged a chair to the side of Younique's desk and sat down heavily. Younique studied Meya for a second, and then said simply "So, why are you here today Meya?" Meya opened her mouth, but no words were formed. Younique gave a small smile, and told Meya quietly "You don't have to answer straight away." Blushing scarlet, Meya nodded, and, to her horror, Younique placed paper on her desk, put on her glasses and began writing in red pen. Meya watched helplessly for a minute, then realized why she was here. She cleared her throat, and Younique looked up, her sentence about Meya's quietness unfinished. "I am here because my cat died." Younique lowered her head so she was looking over her spectacles. "Oh dear," Younique said. Meya felt the feelings bubble inside her. She sniffed, and tears arose as quickly as the feelings had. "I know," Meya said, "And Furnisha was only eight. She still had a few years." "How did she die?" inquired Younique. "She... she was hit by a bus." Younique breathed in sharply. "Woah..." "I can't..." the tears began to flow, "I c-can't really th-th-think about Furnisha now... it hurts so... so m-m-muuuuuuuuuch!" The sobs juddered through Meya's body, the cries of grief strangling her. Younique sat in her seat, quiet yet soothing, and with the aid of the tissues on Younique's desk, Meya recovered, hiccoughing at regular intervals. "I loved her. She went away." Younique took a deep breath. "Do you realize," she said matter-of-factly, "That we all - including you and me - we all die someday?" Meya nodded. "Did you think that even if Furnisha wasn't hit by that bus, she would have lived forever?" Meya paused, contemplating. "Did you think," Younique continued, "That if Furnisha wasn't killed, she would not die?" "Yes, alright!" Meya suddenly said loudly, "I know I know! It's just... maybe having a natural death wouldn't give me so much... sadness! Grief! Oh for Go-" "Meya," Younique interupted, "You are twisting the tale so that you are the victim, not poor old Furnisha. Furnisha should be the one here. 'Why am I dead? Why me?' Instead, you are here, making yourself miserable." All this was said with no emotion, with a plain, no-nonsense face. Meya stopped crying and wiper her nose with the back of her hand. "But..." Meya said slowly, "I was sad. I am sad. Why do you say I am not a victim?" "I said that because I needed to make you think about poor Furnisha," Younique explained, "Who has suffered a lot more than you. Now, I want you to write the best memory that you have of Furnisha on this piece of paper." Younique handed over the red pen and piece of paper with Meya's assessment on it. Meya wrote quickly in a slanting hand, and then read it out when Younique motioned for her to do so. " 'Furnisha was scratching the couch. This was when we had first got her, and she was running around doing that. We told her off, and she did all the furniture. It was so cute, she was a tiny kitten. And then we got her name... Furnisha. Furniture and Fashionita - she was so posy!' " Younique laughed at the story, and said "I love it. Now, our time is up, thank you very much for coming to see me today. Your homework is to review all the good times you had with Furnisha, and also what you want in a new kitten. That would really lift your spirits." "Thank you!" Meya said, and Younique knew she meant it. Giving her demure smile once more, Younique waved good-bye to Meya wand watched the door close behind her client. © 2009 Bella-MarieAuthor's Note
