Mommy Wake Up Please

Mommy Wake Up Please

A Poem by Kay
"

A poem about growing up with the challenges of an alcoholic father and a mother who ignores everything.

"
Mommy wake up please
Daddy is hurting us
With the cruel things he says
The things he does
Mommy wake up please
Daddy's drunk again
Stumbling in after dark
Passing out on the couch
Mommy wake up please
Daddy is calling you names again
He's angry and throwing things
Yelling and screaming after dark
Mommy wake up please
Daddy's threatened to kill himself
He's watching while I choke on tears
Something's wrong with daddy
Mommy wake up please
Daddy apologizes to me with chocolate again
Shhh it never happened everything is normal
I love you do you love me too?
Mommy wake up please
I'm very very alone and scared
There's a weight on my shoulders that I must bear
Shhh don't let them hear you cry
Mommy wake up please
Why do you make excuses for daddy?
Daddy's mean he hurts me can't you see!
Daddy hurts you too mommy I see it but you never open your eyes
Mommy wake up please
Wake up mommy and hold me while I cry
I lost my childhood and I can't seem to find it
Oh mommy won't you wake up please?

Author's Note

Kay
Yeah ignoring grammar would be and just for clarification I'm not being physically or sexually abused but this is about growing up with my alcoholic father and the struggles I have and am still facing.

This is incredibly powerful. I am intimately aware of this situation and you have presented it in a remarkably intelligent fashion. Indeed our eyes can be closed when are not asleep. Our eyes are able to not see when they are open.
