Only in Florida

Only in Florida

A Poem by Bee Oxford

comments suggested I should laugh
at the video on my instagram feed

of an aligator crawling across a cul de sac
along with the the words "only in florida"

Her scaley paws on the pavement, impervious
and the houses there all brand new
a policeman watches and waits
unsure of what to do

I'd like to tell him:
bring back the button bush,
the soft seemed bulrush,
the grasses, sedges and reeds

Let her sink back into the swamp
and breathe
only in florida
where she belongs to be.

And yet it happens everywhere. Wild life is forced from its habitat because of our expanding developments. Thought provoking and meaningful write.

compassion for something or someone everyone else would fear. A poet's heart indeed.
