To Love or Not to Love

Just a homework assignment i did based on Shakespeare's Hamlet To Be or Not To Be Soliloquy

To Love or not to Love�"that is the question:

Whether it is smarter to endure
the pangs and pains of delicious amor,

Or to build up walls to block the waves of complications
and, by rejecting, avoid them.

To choose, to stay�"
Alone�"and by being alone to cause
The heartache and the engulfing empty void
That the heart is heir to�"

It’s another option
that’s often dismissed.

To be, in love�"
To love, perchance to complete. Ay, there’s the goal,
For in the sense of completeness what peril may unveil,
When we have filled the empty black void,
Will it give us pause?

There’s the respect
That’s due to loves that last through life.

For how many could withstand the test of time,

The abusive wrongs,

The prideful indecisions,

The torture of twisted affair,

The helplessness of rule,

The uselessness of authority,

And the refusal
of the loves that the unwanted gives,
when one could satisfy the desires simply
By accepting them?

Who would shoulder the massive burden,
to break a heart under the desire for half,

But the terror of what comes after love,

The constantly relived agony from which
Tragedies are born,

Questions the heart,
and yet still makes us wish for new risk

Rather than take on what we already have.

Thus the heart may make villains of us all,
Only thanks to the strength of will
Are we able to overcome the body’s pure want,
And bind to the great commitment of friendship
which makes us stop and watch again
As we lose all chance of action.
