Expectations For Perfection

Expectations For Perfection

A Poem by Miss Marie Riorden.
"

Quite true, do you not think?

"

If only I could reach for expectations that cannot be satisfied;

Only receive some kind compliment, some source that is gratified.

Instead of insults that sting deeply, cut deep in the flesh

Leaving both their mark on skin and heart, showing cleanly fresh

Please forgive me for I have done wrong, I sing you the hurt

That patterns my soul, from all the stained words of dirt

Telling me of despair and loss, a horrible conviction

My life to only lead a misled contradiction.

No longer believing the sense of truth that is spoke

From the depths of my heart, trust cannot be awoke

Doubt fills my head to every corner and every nook

Reading me is almost trying to understand a confusing book

That's been read before without any sense of interpretation

A word for a picture shown, it's only part of complication

Finding itself lost within the pages, the binding so tight

Long ago forgetting where to look, how to see the light

No perfection existing a world so harsh, so cruel

Where people are used as play-things,  they're used as a tool

For other people's benefits to raise them above society

Trying to separate  the difference between fairy tales and reality

Or is there a difference between concepts so wrong, contrite?

Will humanity go down with some spark, some fight?

Perfection, perfection, speaking to the voice in your head

"You're better off thinner, scarred, or better yet, dead

Suicide's the way out, take some pills for that pain

Go cliff diving for kicks, or play chicken with the train."

Bring yourself to society's expectations, which are failed to meet

The perfection that you strive to see, knocks you off your feet

A last kiss good-bye you write,  blood drips down your wrist

Ruled by society's appearance to you, an ending with a twist.

Society is judgmental and it sucks that it makes us feel that we are never good enough...
