Best friendA Poem by BeccyIt happens. She was only mildly inattentive, a series of tiny pink hearts randomly doodled on a blank page, a slightly dreamy look in her eyes; hardly enough she imagined to draw attention. Then; 'Penny for your thoughts young lady,' came the voice of doom. The footsteps silent, almost predatory as a shadow cast ominous across her desk. 'Your effort thus far seems rather lacking in content, perhaps a one hour detention will focus the mind.' "I'll tell him you'll be late,' her best friend whispered at the bell, a curled smile, a slightly triumphant look from beneath mascara laden lashes making her heart beat faster than the wings of a frightened little bird. "We'll be in the park, I'll stay with him and make sure he waits.'
