A fragment of the whole

A fragment of the whole

A Poem by Beccy

Time stored all, but kept its council.
Wrote no history of our creation,
but chronicled instead,
the ancient forests,
the ceaseless oceans.

Aeons passed, ember became fire,
whilst multi hued moths gathered
with wild mischief in their wings.
A different species, populating
every space, but sharing none.

Still though, the forests bloomed,
the tide ebbed and flowed,
as chameleon like, nature adapted,
nurturing the windblown seed,
the hospitality of birdsong.

An ending or sorts came by and by,
a closing of the account. But it did not
scar the tree, or venture where
sea and sand were met;
and the Magi proved no wiser than
the humble shepherds on the hill,
who had not calculated,
but knew the way.

                ~~~~~~
Metal skeletons of the passing still
bestride the land. Crows congregate,
solemn in their contemplation
of silent lines reaching out,
seeking to communicate
with what is longer there.
And the white horse carved into
the hillside is only resting.
I find myself asking which White Horse? I love the way this flows, through words, through history and through time and mystery. It is quite simple one of your best in my humble opinion.
My favourite is the Uffington horse by the way. Although I'm not sure it is a horse or more a dragon.
What an absolute blinder Beccy... Darwin would be proud of ya, Nostradamus would be highly delighted with himself and you and I am too... what started off as an insidious evolutionary process, has over time, gathered momentum until eventually it went crazy.... I am so glad I found this page.......Neville
Man will always destroy nature to expand its empire whether large or small.The crows in your story cannot comprehend what is there now or what will be, but they remember what was.
The destruction of nature is a somber thing to think about indeed
nature needed its own poet to scroll down the history of itself...
but yes, these days it seems nature is getting phased out more and more by technology...
as usual, excellent imagery in your work.
Nice free verse, Beccy.
And I can relate to the theme well. It rings a bell in the readers mind.
