Of lollipops and Sundays

Of lollipops and Sundays

A Poem by Beccy

Sticky little hands and lips,
unadorned with that to come,
delighting in each moment spent
though they be only lightly lent.

Sticky little hands and lips,
held fast and unashamed kissed,
secure in every moment spent,
though they be only lightly lent.

Sticky little hands and lips,
that dream in innocent repose,
of lollipops and Sundays spent
whilst I store moments heaven sent.

For my beautiful son.

Returning the favor of a review. I was hoping to find one of your short stories since I generally do not critique poetry. First I know very little about poetry and read very little of it so I don't feel qualified to pass any sort of judgement on it. My hope is that a simple reaction will suffice. So, here goes-- I love this poem. You have a deft hand and have created the essence of a small child, the preciousness of those fleeting moments. I have a three-year-old granddaughter so I can identify very much with this lovely poem. If you have any short stories for critique, please post them and I'd be glad to take a look at them.

In my memory's ear I hear the tinkle of an ice-cream van from some hot, faraway nostalgic street.
This is a poignantly charming song of love in rhyme. It purrs with a world of childhood's spent and shared, witnessed and felt. It is crafted with loving intelligence, managing to marry art with affection without being spoilt by emotion or mawkishness. A lovely piece of writing, presented in a pleasingly compact and discerning form.

I absolutely love this post Beccy! The poetic prosody is excellent with rhyme scheme and meter and of course the content...beautiful. Enjoy that little boy because they grow up too fast. ~Sharon

Thank you Dana. He's nine on 21st July. The time has simply flown, but the journey has been blissful.

Beccy.

that boy of yours must be getting bigger now. Soon it wont be cool for mom to kiss his face in
front of friends. But that's what life's cherished moments are for. Beautifully written my friend.

Time spent in childhood is all too 'lightly lent' - in such a hurry they are to grow up - as we all were. Then we wish for those days that were loaned to us back.
This is gorgeous Beccy.

A beautiful gift to your son.

Saw the title and longed for something beautifully sweet. This just brings a joy to the heart, looking back over the moments and memories. Love the feeling of peace... of childhood.

dear Beccy... Your name deserves to be
spelled correctly, so delicately charming,
as is your poetry. truly, Pat
