What I love most about your message is how you characterize youth & old age: "purity to decay" . . . "ecstasy and agony" . . . this is what's going on in the physical plane, but the irony is that we are rough unformed lumps of clay in youth, when it comes to how foolish & naive we are. In old age, some of the best stuff in life is happening, but some are more focused on the physical decay of age. My favorite is V1 becuz of how you characterize the passage of time in a life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
Hello Beccy :) wow you packed a heck of a lot in these 9 lines...this is a jewel to your crown of creation. I enjoy turning your pages but never swiftly lest i miss something. I am definitly a moth to your flame
Yes...and by "free" it is the breeding plumage kind of free like Virgil's "Eclogue" where even the basics of all
complex interaction begins with shepherds standing in a field conversing. That kind of free. Not the free of some imagined paradise. Not that of an Eden of abundant natural beauty. But the free that allows us to advance beyond our collections (houses, races, cars, mortgages, neighborhood associations, etc.). This is such a tremendous poem. And all poems are tremendous that take advantage of our nonmaterial reflexes....dana
This is an amazing conglomeration of tasty visuals. That last line makes me sigh a bit, I could use some of that freedom about now. Ecstasy and agony are definitely two points along the same line, interchangeable at times. The finest nine lines I have seen in a while!!
wow. this is fantastic..."thin boned, moths to a flame"
so vulnerable...and so often corrupted by change...always that dilemma of choice of that which will bring ecstasy or agony...
and then we we become ashes..we can only hope that we have found some sort of enlightenment in our lives...and that now that the story is done...we might find peace when freed from this earthly existence.
love this, Beccy.

As always, you use such fine wording, Beccy, it's a true gift - and a half. But, then, top of that you sow thoughts as if to make our minds and hearts suddenly but carefully stop, only to be touched by an awareness of moving on/growing up one just didn't have before. Rather like a 'Eureka!' moment.. and thus, that 'brief drift of ember sets us free.' You really and truly know how to gently mention .. .. .. thank you. x
I'm reminded of those scholars in love with their quest to find the meaning of life, to their ultimate demise.
The passion can cross the line into madness
I'm forty four, single and have a lovely fifteen year old son called Charlie. I've been writing poetry and short stories since I can remember. I have always been an assiduous reader of poetry and real.. more..
